Leek

Malik Parker- Hill aka Leek, was born December 8, 1986 in a Northside neighborhood of Philadelphia PA.
He grew up in a single parent home in the inner city, one of 9 siblings. As the one of the younger children, Leek looked up to his older brothers who were into hip hop and rap in the early 90′s. Some of his early influences were LL Cool J, Rakim, Run DMC, The Wu-Tang Clan, Rob Base and Kid n Play.

In 1994, Malik’s Mother moved her family to Oregon, where, at age 13, he began writing music. Though he fell in love with music and poetry, Malik’s main focus at this time was on improving his game on the court. He didn’t consider exploring music seriously until moving back to Philly at the age of 18 where he collaborated with a friend (Dj Klondike) and recorded his first track to a beat produced on a Sony Playstation. Shortly after, he received a late night phone call from Klondike encouraging him to come to the club to see how people would react to his song when it was played. He rushed down, and being 18, had a bit of trouble getting in, but Klondike snuck him in through the back door. When the record started spinning, the crowd went crazy!

Moving back to Oregon in 2009, Leek attended Wenatchee Valley Junior College In Washington on a full sports scholarship where he also began performing at events, and took acting classes… After college he returned to Oregon and teamed up with childhood friends Randolph Turner aka HD and Terrell Baker aka T-Rell to form a group called YNR (Yung N Restless). They started doing shows locally packing out bars and clubs where they quickly became local favorites. Leek and YNR took their talents to Portland and opened up for Marquis Houston of Immature and IMX.

Since then Leek and YNR have Opened for artist like Bay area Legend Yuk Mouth and Savage, and has featured on coast2coastmixtapes Vol. 91 along with artists T.I and J.Cole. Recently Leek has been working on a solo project with Indie Labels Concrete Office and Unknockable Ent. He can also be found hosting a local television program based in Salem Oregon called “In The 503.”
